About Periyar River
The Periyar rises in the hills near the Tamil Nadu border and flows through Idukki, where it is dammed at Mullaperiyar and at Idukki, before heading west toward the Arabian Sea.
It supplies hydroelectric power, irrigation and drinking water, and sustains the wildlife of Periyar Tiger Reserve.
